Teaching Black Canadian History (Echoes of Resilience)

Fostering Black Joy in the Classroom

In this session, teachers will learn about practical ways to incorporate Black joy into their classrooms and learn about the importance of centering Black voices. Black joy centres positive, uplifting narratives pertaining to the Black experience in the classroom and allows students to be their authentic selves unapologetically.

Preventing Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking (Grades 7-8)

Sexual crimes against children are rising at an alarming rate in Canada.  Education is key to protecting our students.  This session will explore grade 7-8 educator tools, resources, and lesson plans to discuss child sexual exploitation and sex trafficking at a developmentally appropriate level in your classroom.  We will explore resources developed by the White Ribbon Campaign, in partnership with OECTA, that will assist teachers in addressing these sensitive topics through a Catholic lens.   Lessons are preventative, safe and positive learning experiences.  Participants will leave with a complete toolkit of lesson plans linked directly to the Ontario Curriculum, including the Religious Education and Family Life expectations.

Prévention de l’exploitation sexuelle et du trafic sexuel (7e à la 8e année)

Les crimes sexuels contre les enfants augmentent à un taux alarmant au Canada.  L’éducation est essentielle pour protéger nos élèves.  Cette séance explorera les outils, les ressources et les plans de leçons des éducateurs de la 7e à la 8e année pour discuter de l’exploitation sexuelle des enfants et du trafic sexuel à un niveau approprié pour les élèves. Nous explorerons les ressources développées par la campagne Ruban Blanc, en partenariat avec OECTA, qui aideront les enseignants à s’occuper de ces sujets sensibles dans un contexte catholique. Les leçons sont des expériences d’apprentissage préventives et positives. Les participants repartiront avec une trousse d’outils complète de plans de leçon directement liés au curriculum de l’Ontario, y compris les lignes directrices d’éducation religieuse et de la vie familiale.
